Turisme de Barcelona promotes Sant Jordi and Catalan literature

The consortium ran two campaigns to highlight the city's vibrant literary scene and the Diada de Sant Jordi

Turisme de Barcelona travelled to the Buenos Aires Book Fair with the aim of drawing attention to the city's vibrant literary scene and launched a campaign promoting Sant Jordi as the day of books and roses in Catalonia. Working alongside the Catalan Tourism Agency, it presented a new cultural initiative designed to showcase Barcelona, its counties and Catalonia through the works of its great writers and on fifteen literary trails exploring the settings of some of their iconic works.

The package includes eight Barcelona city trails, four in Barcelona province and three in the rest of Catalonia. The Barcelona trails are: the Don Quixote trail with the Portal de Mar as the main backdrop; Gabriel García Márquez and Mario Vargas Llosa, who became world famous when they lived for a time in Barcelona; Carlos Ruiz Zafón with The Shadow of the Wind; the works of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán with his central character, detective Pepe Carvalho, working from his office on Carrer Nou de la Rambla (formerly Conde del Asalto); Ildefonso Falcones'The Cathedral of the Sea; and the Joan Brossa poetry trail.

Turisme de Barcelona commissioned the graphic illustrator Magoz to design the image for Sant Jordi 2019 with the aim of nurturing new talent and inviting up-and-coming artists from around the world to create their own illustration to mark the event over the coming years. It will be used by Turisme de Barcelona to wish everyone a happy Sant Jordi.
