The World Tourism Organisation (OMT) has recognised Barcelona as an accessible destination. The Catalan capital received a special distinction at the first of the Accessible Tourist Destination awards convened by the WTO in conjunction with the Fundación ONCE, to recognise and promote tourist attractions and destinations that are accessible for everyone.
The special mention acknowledges that Barcelona is an advanced destination in terms of accessibility and offers excellent standards of accessible services, accommodation and restaurants, and transport in particular.
This special mention was awarded at the 23rd General Assembly of the World Tourism Association in Saint Petersburg attended by the deputy manager of the consortium Ignasi de Delàs. Portugal won the award for best Accessible Tourist Destination.
